SANGLI: Although the general body of Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad municipal corporation has stayed the move for privatisation of the civic body’s water supply scheme, the administration and some ruling group members say it is too late to shelve the proposal permanently.
The move for privatisation of the water supply scheme has resulted in a war of words between two rival groups.
An action committee formed to oppose the privatisation move has also called for a Sangli bandh on July 26.
Municipal commissioner Ashwini Kumar has, however, said that the steps for privatisation of the scheme were taken only after receiving a green signal from the state government.
Sources in the civic administration said the companies involved in the process of privatisation have already spent Rs 80 lakh for the process. The fate of the proposal depends solely on the state government.
